About
Since its establishment in the 1982–1983 academic year, Anadolu University’s Open Education Faculty has made a great contribution to the development of the Republic of Turkey. Since its inclusion in Turkish higher education, the Open Education Faculty has provided access to higher education particularly for disadvantaged groups (economic, social, legal, and physically disabled groups), thus realizing the principle of “equal opportunity” enshrined in the Turkish Constitution. During its implementation, the Open Education Faculty has utilized the opportunities provided by technology to offer students a variety of services through different educational techniques.
At the beginning, education within the Open Education Faculty was provided through system-specific textbooks, television, radio, and academic counseling practices. Among these, the Academic Counseling application was one of the system’s successful and well-received practices, implemented in a limited number of centers in Turkey and certain centers abroad. As internet technologies and mobile communication tools advanced, and as people began using the internet and mobile applications more intensively, the Open Education Faculty continued to diversify its educational opportunities by rapidly adapting to this new system. Along with these advancements, as students became more accustomed to using the internet and mobile applications, Anadolu University’s Open Education Faculty replaced face-to-face academic counseling with the “Course Responsibility” model. Since the 2020–2021 academic year, online live course applications have replaced academic counseling sessions within the framework of the “course responsibility” practice.
Today, the online live course model, successfully implemented and closely followed by students, has become an important part of the process. Since its establishment, the Open Education Faculty has continuously evolved and transformed with technological advancements. These technology-supported innovations indicate that Anadolu University’s Open Education Faculty , with its dynamic structure, will continue to introduce new practices that enhance the educational opportunities it offers.
