There is a need to address the shortage of qualified personnel in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) across scientific research, public institutions, and the private sector in our country. Meeting this need will enable the effective use of technology and prevent systems—often developed each year at multimillion-dollar cost, particularly by public institutions—from falling into disuse. In addition, wider and more effective application of this technology—especially in planning, geology, agriculture, and forestry—will improve the quality of work conducted in these fields.
